Cochrane and the surrounding region saw steady snowfall over the weekend, with totals ranging from 5 to 15 centimetres.

Meteorologist Stephen Berg with Environment and Climate Change Canada confirmed the accumulation, noting that similar amounts were recorded in Calgary and Bragg Creek.

"March is actually the snowiest month in Alberta, so it's not an uncommon feature," said Berg, emphasizing that this type of snowfall is typical for the season.

While snowfall reports from further west are still being gathered, Berg noted that no record-breaking amounts have been reported at this time.

Looking ahead, residents should prepare for a mix of weather conditions throughout the week.

"There's currently a bit of a ridge over Alberta, but that's quickly going to be eroding," said Berg. "We're expecting a dip in the jet stream over southern Alberta from Tuesday through Thursday, which will bring below-normal temperatures, about five degrees colder than usual along with chances of rain or snow."

However, the cold spell won’t last long.

"Temperatures will kick back up again when another ridge moves in toward the weekend," Berg added.

With unpredictable conditions on the way, residents should be ready for rapid changes in temperature and precipitation.
