The Town of Abbey had its most successful lobster and steak dinner fundraiser ever, raising over $68,000.
Over 200 lobsters and steaks were eaten at the 10th Annual Abbey Steak and Lobster Fundraiser. The monumental amount of money will be used to make some upgrades at the Abbey Business and Community Centre.
Jenn Biensch, economic development officer for the Village of Abbey, thanked all 160 plus people who participated.
"And we probably had close to 50 volunteers between the committee and dishwashers," extended Biensch. We had the 4-H Club come and do dishes and bus tables. It definitely takes a village to put this event on."
The upgrades in the works include an improved washroom rebuild, a developed outdoor space for outdoor events, and a few smaller projects.
Currently, the ABC Centre hosts a daycare, a library, a meeting room, a rentable event space, a fitness room, and even a snooker room.
Over the last 10 years, the surf and turf event has generated over $400,000 for the community.
