The Holy Family Roman Catholic Separate School Division recently announced a new position introduced to their operations, Superintendent of Human Resources. Current Principal of St. Michael School in Weyburn, Sabrina Gulka, has been appointed to the role.
Director of Education with the Holy Family RCSSD, Ken Sampson, explains the role encompasses all levels of responsibilities related to human resources, which has been previously managed by various personnel across the division.
“The idea here is to identify someone who's got a vision and understanding and passion for working with people. We felt that it was important to have it at this level and to have it for a full-time position and to get someone who's got that enthusiasm to be able to take what we're looking for and bring it to a completely different level.”
Responsibilities in the role will include staff recruitment and hiring, onboarding and offboarding duties, wellness and wellbeing needs, and managing long-term leave or workers compensation.
Sampson explains while the role is important, they didn’t require the hire to be internal, however Gulka applied for the role and was found to be the ideal candidate.
“We had it open to internal and external applicants. We ended up hiring someone from inside because we just felt that she was the best candidate. We’re excited to have her in that position because we know her as a school learner and administrator and it was important that we knew that person. It worked out well that Sabrina was the successful applicant."
Gulka will officially begin in the role on August 1st of this year, until then she will remain on as principal of St. Michael School, however, the process of filling her current role has already begun.
“we're just now in the beginning stages of doing the search for her replacement. And as a result, we hope to have an advertisement posted in a couple of days, and have that person identified by end of April, start of May.”
Sampson expresses his excitement in having Gulka move into the central office.
“We are very grateful for the leadership that she's provided to St. Michael's School over the last number of years, both as principal and previous vice principal and learning facilitator and teacher. We're excited that the experience that Sabrina's bringing to the position will equip her well to work closely with staff across the entire division.”
