Two Chinook’s Edge students have qualified for the national science fair, after both receiving gold medals at the Central Alberta Rotary Science Fair, held at Red Deer Polytechnic on March 29, 2025.

Claire Friesen, a Grade 9 student from Cremona School, received a gold medal and “Best of Fair” in the Grade 7 to 12 category, as well as an invitation to attend nationals. Her project is called “What goes up must come down.” This is Friesen’s third invitation to attend the national science fair.

Oceana Jones, a Grade 12 student from École Olds High School, received a gold, and was first runner-up in the Grade 7 to 12 category. Jones also received an invitation to attend nationals. Jones’s project is called “Autism”. Jones was awarded a full year scholarship to Red Deer Polytechnic.

The national science fair will be held in Fredericton, New Brunswick, from May 31 to June 7, 2025.
