Chinook's Edge School Board Trustee, Kathy Kemmere, has received a King Charles III Coronation Medal.
Member of Parliament Earl Dreeshen nominated Kemmere for the award, in the health category, and presented it to her at a recent ceremony.
He says, referring to Kemmere’s career work, “as a Licensed Practical Nurse, you saw the need to train as a Palliative and Pastoral Volunteer and take the initiative to become a force for better rural hospice palliative care and bereavement support.” Dreeshen says he nominated Kemmere because of her “dedication and compassion for people.”
Dreeshen also acknowledged Kemmere’s service as a trustee serving in the Olds area.
"The Board was pleased to learn that Kathy had received this award,” says Holly Bilton, Chinook’s Edge Board Chair.
“We admire her commitment to serving people in her community, during her time working in health care and also currently as a School Board Trustee. We are fortunate to have Kathy on the Board and appreciate her positivity and care for the people around her,” says Bilton.
"I am truly honored to receive this medal in recognition of my role in the creation of space and awareness for better hospice palliative care and bereavement support in rural Alberta. For me, the medal represents an honoring of the work of so many,” says Kemmere.
Kemmere says, “Personally, I recognized early in my career, there are many people in all walks of life that need an advocate. In certain times of life there are less opportunities for this support, as in illness, isolation, loss and grief. In my role as a parent, nurse, volunteer, community member and now as a trustee, I continue that passion of advocacy and support."
