With Alberta Education’s new K-6 Social Studies curriculum approaching, Red Deer Public Schools (RDPS) is welcoming a coordinator to support teachers and ensure a smooth transition in classrooms.

In the role, Janene Baile will help deliver the new curriculum to teachers, develop educational resources, and ensure teachers have the tools they need to bring engaging, high-quality instruction to students while providing professional learning opportunities to enhance student learning.

“We are committed to supporting our teachers as they implement the new curriculum,” said Dan Lower, Deputy Superintendent. “Having a dedicated Social Studies Coordinator will ensure our educators feel confident and well-equipped to bring meaningful learning experiences to students. Janene brings a wealth of expertise and passion, and we are excited to have her lead this work.”

Baile has been a teacher in RDPS for 12 years.

In her previous roles, she taught Grade 5 French Immersion at École Oriole Park, and Kindergarten to Grade 3 in both the English and French Immersion programs at Joseph Welsh Elementary and École Mountview.

Baile is now excited to help shape Social Studies education in the RDPS division.

“Social Studies is all about helping students think critically, understand different perspectives, and engage with the world around them,” she said. “I look forward to working with our amazing teachers to make the new curriculum come alive in the classrooms.”

Baile will begin working with teachers in the coming weeks as preparations for the new curriculum rollout get underway.
