Cochranites are seeing signs of the impact of the elimination of the consumer carbon tax, which took effect today.
Gas prices had been hovering north of $1.50 per litre before dropping overnight to as low as $1.31.3 per litre for regular gas at some Cochrane stations. Others are expected to follow.
The elimination of the consumer carbon tax translates to savings of about 17.6 cents per litre.
For a standard 50-litre tank, consumers will save about $8.80 per fill-up.
The carbon tax on natural gas was 15.25 cents per cubic metre. Its impact is expected to take longer to be felt.
