The Redvers Rockets have cemented their place in hockey history, capturing both the Big Six Hockey League championship and the Saskatchewan Hockey Association Senior D provincial title. The impressive feat marks a significant turnaround from last season, when the team fell short in both finals.

Co-manager Dallas Jonassen, who shares the role with Jim Duncan, reflected on the achievement with pride, noting how much it meant to the players and the community.

"We've been in the finals several times, but clinching that final series is tough," Jonassen said. "Last year against Macklin, we should have won, and it was tough losing both championships. But this year, the boys came through."

The Rockets dominated their Big Six playoff run, sweeping the championship series before shifting their focus to the provincial finals against the Edam Three Stars. The transition from league play to the physicality of the provincial finals was a challenge, but Jonassen credited the team's depth and health for their success. "Last year, we seemed worn out, but this year, we were healthier and stronger. We had three lines that could all score, a solid checking line, and a strong defense. That depth made the difference," he said.

After winning the Big Six title, the Rockets had little time to rest before facing Edam. The series proved to be a physical battle, particularly in Game 3, when the Rockets adjusted to Edam's hard-hitting style. "We hadn’t run into a team like that in a long time," Jonassen said. "They liked to take the body, and in Game 3, our guys woke up and matched their intensity. That was the turning point."

Another key factor was finding the back of the net. Edam boasted a strong goaltender, and Jonassen noted that breaking through early was crucial.

"The longer a team stays with you, the harder it gets. But once we got the first goal past their goalie in Game 3, I knew we were going to roll," he said.

The historic double championship win is a rare accomplishment in Big Six history, with Jonassen speculating that it may be the first time a team has captured both titles since the 1990s.

"I don’t think anyone has won both in a long time. It’s big for the Big Six, too—it puts us on the map again," he said.

Now, with the season wrapped up, the focus shifts to celebrating. The team is planning a wind-up event, though no date has been set.

"Everyone’s looking forward to the party," Jonassen said with a laugh. "We partied on the bus home, but we’ll have a proper celebration soon."

The Rockets' success was fueled not only by their talent and determination but also by unwavering community support. Fans traveled to games, packed the home rink, and even gathered at local venues to watch the action unfold.

"Our fans were incredible. They set up a big screen at the rink, packed the bars, and cheered us on. You don’t see that kind of support every day," Jonassen said.

As the Rockets bask in their championship glory, Jonassen expressed gratitude to everyone involved in the team’s journey.

"A huge thank you to our coaches, our players, and our fans. It was a great way to end the season," he said.

With their championship banners secured, the Redvers Rockets will now take time to celebrate before preparing for another shot at glory next season.
