Dick Damron of Bentley, Alberta, passed away on March 29 at the age of 91 in a Lacombe retirement home.

The country music star made music his whole life. Born in Bentley in 1934, Dick, born Joseph Glenn Damron, had a career spanning over 60 years.

Damron was a Canadian country music legend. He was inducted into the Canadian Country Music hall of Fame in 1994, and recorded more than 25 albums, wrote over 500 songs. He was inducted into the International Country Music Hall of Fame in 2001.

His list of accolades is even too long for Wikipedia, which simply states “Damron has won too many awards to list completely, but here is a sample”. The website goes on to list not only numerous awards, but also a who’s who of country legends he had worked and shared stages with like Marty Robbins, Waylon Jennings, Ronnie Hawkins and many others.

Damron's obituary describes a man who not only loved music, and was a pioneer for Canadian country musicians, but also was known as a man of integrity, warmth, and quiet wisdom. He was also a man who considered Alberta home no matter where he was in the world.

Dick Damron is survived by his two daughters, and his three grandchildren, relatives and friends, and of course the fans who will keep his music alive.
