Hunter St. Martin's goal only 2:08 into overtime broke the hearts of a sold-out crowd at InnovationPlex last night.
The Medicine Hat Tigers came back from down 2-0 to beat the Swift Current Broncos 4-3 in Game 4 of their first round WHL playoff series.
"There's a no quit mentality in that room," said Broncos Assistant Coach Zach Franko. "It's hard to find words after a game like that. Really proud of the team we have that are competing. A lot of guys played a lot of minutes tonight and until the bitter end they competed their butts off. As coaches that's all we can ask."
Swift Current trails the top-ranked Tigers 3-1 in the best-of-seven series.
Reid Dyck gave the Broncos a chance in Game 4 with 44 saves in the Swift Current net.
"He's playing he doesn't have another year," Franko said. "It's the last kick at the can and he's playing like he doesn't want his junior career to end. He's going to have to be even better on Friday and then on Sunday and for Game 7."
It was only 1:34 in when Carlin Dezainde scored his fourth of the series to open the scoring.
Broncos Captain Clarke Caswell then tipped in a Hunter Mayo point shot for a power play goal and 2-0 Swift Current edge.
That's when Medicine Hat's top line took over.
Ryder Ritchie and Gavin McKenna combined for six points as the Tigers scored the next three goals to pull ahead in the third period.
Luke Mistelbacher's first goal of the playoffs pulled Swift Current even with 1:57 left in regulation.
Swift Current will now have to win three games in a row to avoid the end of their WHL season.
The climb starts Friday night in Medicine Hat for Game 5.
