A mixed result for Stewart Valley's Chris Barber today.
Barber and fellow “Freedom Convoy” organizer Tamara Lich have been found guilty of counselling others to commit mischief for their roles in the 2022 mass protest in Ottawa.
The two were also found guilty of committing mischief themselves, but Crown lawyers requested to have that finding stayed.
Barber was additionally found guilty of counselling others to disobey a court order for suggesting people ignore an injunction issued by a judge directing convoy participants to stop honking their truck horns.
The pair were found not guilty of four additional charges, including intimidation and counseling people to break the law.
Ontario Court Justice Heather Perkins-McVey ruled that the evidence showed the duo routinely encouraged people to continue to remain at and join the protest despite knowing the adverse effect it was having on downtown residents and businesses.
Barber left the courtroom without comment.
Their trial wrapped up in September 2024.
Court reconvenes on April 16 to set a sentencing date.
