The African Children’s Choir is celebrating its 40th anniversary this year and will make a couple of stops in Central Alberta next week.
The internationally acclaimed choir is made up of 18 Ugandan children between the ages of 9 and 11.
The group will perform at Bethel Christian Reformed Church in Lacombe on April 9, before moving on to Clive Baptist Church on April 11.
Showtime both nights is at 7 p.m.
Local families host the group in their homes, where they share and learn about new customs, food, and culture.
"I can’t say enough about the churches, the host families, our sponsors," said choir manager Tina Sipp. "If you can imagine, over 40 years, how many people have joined with us to help these children become educated and give back."
The choir will perform popular children’s tunes, traditional spiritual songs, and vibrant African cultural pieces.
Each child in the choir has faced significant hardship, often with limited access to education. Through the choir, these children gain life-changing opportunities for education and personal growth, becoming beacons of hope for their communities.
“The African Children’s Choir proves just how powerful music can be,” added Sipp. “These concerts not only provide hope and encouragement to our audiences, but they offer the children life-changing experiences that help shape them into future leaders.”
Admission to the concerts is free; however, donations will be accepted.
