Estevan Youth Soccer has officially closed registration for the 2025 season and is now shifting its focus to recruiting coaches ahead of the league’s May 5 kickoff.

President Jordan Isbister said the board is thrilled with the growing interest in the sport locally, noting a significant bump in registrations this year.

“The board is actually really excited,” he said. “Registration is up about 30 or 40 kids from last year, and just over the past couple of years, we’ve actually exploded the numbers.”

That growth means more teams—and a greater need for volunteers on the sidelines.

“Every year, it’s a challenge, especially with the growth we’re seeing,” Isbister said. “We’re going to have more teams this year, and we struggle getting coaches every single season. We’re reaching out to parents and even people who don’t have kids in soccer but are interested in helping. We’re definitely looking for anyone willing to volunteer as a coach.”

Based on last year’s team breakdown, about 40 coaches will be needed this season, including assistant roles.

“Last year, we had nine teams in U9, nine in U7, and four in U11,” Isbister said. “So to cover all age groups, we’re looking at needing roughly 40 coaches.”

Experience isn’t necessary—support and training will be available.

“We definitely provide support to the coaches,” Isbister emphasized. “We hold a coach session before the season starts, and this year we’re also putting on two coach clinics in early May. We’ll be providing materials and training manuals as well.”

Coaching commitments are manageable, particularly for those working with house league teams.

“Each team in our house league plays at least twice a week,” Isbister said. “We also have development teams that travel to tournaments, provincials, and play extra games with other Southeast teams.”

Coaches are needed across all age groups and divisions, and Isbister said the organization is hoping more volunteers step forward soon.

“We are short right now, and we’re just reaching out to see if anybody can help.”

Estevan Youth Soccer is also holding one final jersey sizing and deposit event on Sunday, April 6, from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Fireside Room at Days Inn.

The season will run through to the end of June, wrapping up with a large tournament on June 21 and 22.
