There's nothing quite like hitting the pitch for a little rugby before heading to prom.
OK, that's not exactly the situation, but you're guaranteed a bit of fun when women rugby players aged 18 and over take to Curtis Field at Redwood Meadows for Prom Dress Rugby on Saturday, April 5, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Women experienced in the sport and those brand new to the game will come together to celebrate strength, sisterhood and the power of women in rugby, says Kate Kimbrell of the Bow Valley Rugby Club.
She says players from across the region are expected to take part in a few friendly games of touch rugby.
"I think we'll have five or six players who have never touched a rugby ball before. We're just going to get together, play rugby in prom dresses and talk about what it means to us in the women's rugby community."
Afterward, they'll enjoy some gumbo.
Friends and fans are encouraged to cheer on the women from the sidelines — and prom dresses are more than welcome.
"Everyone's wearing prom dresses, including our referees," she says.
