The Portage Terriers lost their first game on home ice so far in their run to the Turnbull Cup by a score of 3-1 to the Dauphin Kings.
Portage scored a goal at the very last second of the first period, as Caleb Lepitre notched his first of the post-season on the powerplay. There was plenty of discussion between the officials and Dauphin's coaching staff, but the goal would stand. 1-0 Portage after the first.
Dauphin would answer with a pair of goals in the second period, both deflected on their way to the Terrier net. It was 2-1 Dauphin after 40 minutes. Portage led the shot category 34-21 at the intermission.
Another deflected shot ended up in the back of the Terrier net early in the third period, as Dauphin would hang on for the win in the final frame by a 3-1 score.
The contest saw Portage go 1/7 on the powerplay and 3/4 on the penalty kill while outshooting Dauphin 47-27.
The two teams will meet up again in Dauphin on Sunday, April 6, with the opening puck drop at 7 p.m.
