Spring has officially arrived in Central Alberta, with above-normal temperatures expected to continue throughout the week.

Certain areas could see some showers later this afternoon, as well as tomorrow. Winds are also anticipated to pick up this afternoon, gusting to about 50 km/h.

Stephen Berg, a meteorologist with Environment and Climate Change Canada, said:

"Apart from the low-pressure system that starts up by the end of the day today, bringing potential rain to the Red Deer area, it looks pretty clear for the most part from Wednesday onward."

The high today, Monday, is 19 C, with a low of minus 2 C tonight.

"Temperatures will reach the mid- to high teens from Wednesday to Friday, and then it looks like another system will develop over the Rockies and foothills toward the end of the week," Berg added.

The normal daytime high for this time of year is 10 C, while the normal low is minus 3 C.
