The Estevan Police Service responded to 60 calls for service over the weekend, including reports of fraud, impaired driving, thefts, and other criminal matters.
On April 3, a resident reported receiving scam emails — one claiming to be from SaskTel offering a credit, and another appearing to relate to a carbon tax rebate. No personal information was provided in either case.
Police also received a report of an attempted phone scam. The complainant said they had received calls from someone claiming to be with their credit card company. No information was given, and the matter remains under investigation.
A 40-year-old man was arrested for failing to comply with court-ordered release conditions. He was lodged in cells to await a court appearance.
Officers were called to the ball diamonds on Wellock Road after receiving a report of a vehicle driving on the grass between two schools. The vehicle was not located, and the investigation is ongoing.
Police are also investigating a report of criminal harassment. Statements are pending. In a separate matter, police are looking into a hit-and-run in a local business parking lot.
Members responded to a call from a local business after a small plastic bag containing a suspicious substance was found in a bathroom. It was determined to be an illicit drug and was safely disposed of.
On April 4, police responded to a noise complaint at an apartment complex. Officers spoke with the individuals involved and issued a warning under the city’s noise bylaw.
That same day, a report of theft from a local business led to the arrest of a suspect. The individual was charged with theft under $5,000 and breaching probation conditions.
Police and Estevan Fire and Rescue were dispatched to Woodlawn Park following a report of a dog falling through the ice. The dog was located safe and unharmed.
Members also attended a residence to keep the peace while individuals collected their belongings.
A 60-year-old Estevan man was arrested for impaired driving and refusing to provide a blood sample. He was charged and released with a future court date.
A 22-year-old Carlyle woman was arrested for assaulting a police officer and resisting arrest after police approached her about having open alcohol in public. She was lodged in cells until sober and released with a court date.
A 31-year-old Estevan man was issued a 30-day driver’s licence suspension. Blood samples were obtained to determine whether drugs were in his system while driving.
On April 5, police conducted multiple mandatory roadside breath tests as part of SGI’s high-visibility checkstops and roving traffic stops. All drivers were found to be sober.
Several tickets were issued to individuals unlawfully possessing alcohol in public.
One individual was located grossly intoxicated and passed out in central Estevan. He was arrested for being intoxicated in public, lodged in cells, and released once sober.
Police received a report of a stolen motor vehicle involving a former spouse of the complainant. The matter is under investigation.
Multiple reports of stolen bicycles were also received. Police are reminding the public to ensure bicycles are locked to help prevent crimes of opportunity.
An electric bicycle that had been reported stolen was located and returned to its owner. The matter remains under investigation.
Police received a report of suspicious individuals in the north part of the city. Officers spoke with the group, who said they were collecting bottles. They were cautioned not to enter private property.
