The United Way Central Alberta (UWCA) held its annual fundraising campaign on Monday, April 7, to celebrate the announcement of raising over $1.7 million locally for the 2024 year.

The event held in Red Deer, surpassed last year’s local giving. The funds raised will continue to strengthen partner agencies delivering vital programs, fuel responsive project grants to help grassroots organizations make an impact, and bolster UWCA programming, ensuring supports are accessible to individuals and families throughout Central Alberta when they need it most.

The success of the 2024 Campaign would not have been possible without the tireless efforts of volunteers. A volunteer-driven movement UWCA rallies volunteers, including workplaces and community collaborators to drive change at the local level.

“We cannot raise the funds we raised to invest back into the community without those people at the workplace, at the helm, doing the bake sales, doing the raffles, doing the 50/50s,” said Chelsea O’Donoghue, CEO of UWCA. “We are deeply thankful to our volunteers. They mobilize our fundraising efforts, shape our community involvements and build deep local connections”

Both businesses and other non-profits were recognized not only for financial contributions but also for the time invested and the volunteer hours that people put in toward the common goal.

“This year’s campaign is a testament to the local love and care we have within our communities” added O’Donoghue. “As we look ahead, we invite Central Albertans to share their time and talent with United Way to help create meaningful change in Central Alberta”

UWCA remains committed to addressing complex social challenges and ensuring everyone has the opportunity to reach their potential, to learn more visit United Way Central Alberta.
