In-river work is set to begin later this month on the Springbank Off-stream Reservoir Project (SR1) to prepare for operation of the reservoir prior to the 2025 flood season

Project officials say the work is scheduled to take place during the last two weeks of April, with an expected duration of four to seven days, depending on flow conditions in the Elbow River.

If conditions are unsafe or the weather is unfavourable, the work will be postponed and rescheduled as soon as possible.

Officials warn the activity may pose hazards to river users near the diversion structure. The site will be closed to the public for the duration of the in-river work.

River users will be required to portage around the area. A temporary detour route will be maintained and monitored by the contractor, in line with federal safety regulations.

Signage will be posted on the river and nearby highways to inform travellers of the closure and detour.
