The Portage Terriers staved off elimination on Saturday night, beating the Dauphin Kings 3-0 on home ice. Penalty trouble cost the Terriers early in the series, but on Saturday night they locked it down giving up four power plays to Dauphin but they killed them all off.
Portage came out firing in the first period and scored in the first three minutes. Adam Belzil was left alone in front of the net and he was able to deke past Dauphin goalie Cole Sheffield to open the scoring. The Dogs outshot the Kings 16-9 through 20 minutes.
The Terriers didn’t let off the gas in the second period and continued to pour on the pressure. While on the power play Cameron Bullinger scored his first of the playoffs. 2-0 Portage after 2.
The third period was much like the first two with the Terriers maintaining a consistent forecheck. Sheffield made some big saves for the Kings to keep it from getting too lopsided. Dawson Madden added one more for Portage off of a strong individual effort. The Terriers had all four lines rolling throughout the night in the 3-0 win.
Mitchell Kathler stopped all 20 shots he faced for his first shutout of the playoffs.
