The Richardson Pioneer Weyburn Red Wings will have another chance to clinch their spot in the SJHL finals Monday night, after they fell 6-1 to the Flin Flon Bombers in Game 5 at the Whitney Forum Saturday night. The loss was the first on the road for the Red Wings in the playoffs.
The Bombers would score three goals in the first nine minutes of the game, chasing Weyburn starting goaltender Angelo Zol from the game. Ty Matoniovich would come in to replace him, and stopped 29 of the 32 shots he faced. At the other end, however, the Red Wings were unable to solve Matthew Kieper more than once for the second game in a row.
The lone goal for the Red Wings came from Liam Fitzgerald in the second period. His sixth of the post-season came on the power play 3:56 into the middle frame, and was assisted by Josh Karman.
Game 6 will be at Crescent Point Place Monday night. The puck drops at 7 p.m. Those who are not able to make it to the rink for the game can catch all the action on Great Plains Ford Red Wing Radio Country 106.7. Dylan Fiessel and John Prette have the call, starting with the pregame show at 6:45 p.m.
