As part of National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week, the Alberta RCMP has launched a new provincewide non-emergency phone number: 310-RCMP (7267).
This number allows individuals to report non-emergency concerns from anywhere in Alberta using a single, easy-to-remember number.
While this line may be useful for Red Deerians when they are outside the city limits, Municipal Policing Services, including the RCMP, are encouraging residents to continue using 403-406-2200 for local non-emergency reporting.
“When a call is received through the local police non-emergency line, it is answered by dispatchers at a local level,” said Peter Puszka, superintendent of Municipal Policing Services. “Calls to the provincial number will be directed into the queue at the Provincial RCMP Operations Communications Centre.”
Puszka added, "By calling the local non-emergency number, our local Police Communications Operators can quickly address your concerns by dispatching the RCMP, Community Peace Officers or the Social Diversion Team.
In addition, they can assist with triaging your complaint and referring you to the appropriate agencies.”
Residents are reminded that non-emergencies in Red Deer should continue to be reported by calling 403-406-2200.
Examples of non-emergency situations include:
- Any situation not posing an immediate or potential threat to life or public safety
- Crimes that have already occurred (not in progress)
- Incidents that do not require immediate police presence, but still require assistance
In an emergency, always call 911.
Residents can also use the online crime reporting tool to report non-emergency complaints.
