Lacombe County Council met on April 10 to review a full agenda that included policy updates, community project funding, and tax rate approvals for 2025.

Workplace policy updated to reflect OH&S changes

Council approved revisions to the Respectful Workplace Policy AD(24), bringing it into alignment with recent updates to Alberta’s Occupational Health and Safety Code. The revised policy strengthens employer responsibilities around reporting, investigation, training and communication in the workplace.

Funding support for community recreation

The Mirror Association for Ball Diamond, Campground and Skating Rink received council approval for up to $8,600 in funding to support a fence replacement project at the second (west) ball diamond. The funding will come from the County’s Recreation Capital Assistance Reserve.

Lacombe County will also manage the project and provide the Association’s full share of the costs upfront. The Association will repay its 50 per cent portion through annual payments of $1,000 starting in 2025.

Council also approved a $3,000 contribution to the Alix Wagon Wheel Museum Association for fire suppression and attic renovations. An additional $2,500 in funding may be provided, contingent on the Village of Alix increasing its own financial contribution by the same amount.

Tax rate bylaw passed for 2025

Bylaw No. 1435/25, which sets the tax rates for all assessable properties in Lacombe County for the 2025 taxation year, passed all three required readings. Council also approved an additional $165,600 to be added to the Recreation Capital Assistance Reserve.

Municipal legislation and development proposals discussed

Council received an update on Bill 50, the Municipal Affairs Statutes Amendment Act, 2025. While no decisions were required at this time, the proposed legislative changes are being monitored for local impact.

Representatives from Eagle Builders, Dennis and Craig Haan, delivered a presentation on the company’s future growth plans within Lacombe County, including a request for tax incentives to support a new facility. Council directed administration to prepare a report and recommendation for consideration at a future meeting.

Amendments to animal bylaw approved

Council also passed the second and third readings of Bylaw No. 1428/25, which amends the County’s Land Use Bylaw to clarify rules related to animals in residential districts. The decision followed a public hearing held on March 13, where residents shared feedback.

The next regular council meeting is scheduled for April 24 at 9 a.m., followed by a Committee of the Whole meeting on June 3 at the Lacombe County Administration Building.
