Alberta Health Services is reminding Albertans to review their immunization records as National Immunization Awareness Week runs from April 21 to 30.

The reminder comes as measles cases have been confirmed in the province. AHS is urging the public to ensure they and their children are up to date with vaccinations.

The MMR-Var vaccine, which protects against measles, mumps, rubella and chickenpox, is free and part of Alberta’s routine immunization schedule for children.

“With measles cases identified in Alberta, the best protection is to ensure you are up to date with your immunizations,” AHS said in a news release.

Anyone with questions about their immunization status can call Health Link at 811 or speak to their healthcare provider. To find a doctor accepting new patients, Albertans can use the “Find a Doctor” tool available through Alberta’s primary care networks.

To book an appointment, call 811 or use the Find Healthcare tool on the AHS website. This allows users to locate nearby public health centres by selecting “hospitals and facilities” and searching for “public health centre.”

Community health centres also provide immunization services. A full directory is available online.

Albertans unsure of their or their child’s vaccine history can text “vaccine record” to 88111 or call 811.

AHS also encourages families to review its Commitment to Comfort resources, which offer strategies to make immunization appointments more comfortable for children.
