The federal election is on Monday, April 28, but citizens have taken advantage of advance polls in record numbers.
According to Elections Canada, 7.3 million ballots have been casted with the advance polls that were available between April 18-21.
This is a 26% increase compared to the 2021 election when 5.8 million people used the advance polls.
Advance polls have become a more common practice for Canadian citizens. In 2008, just over 1.5 million people used advance polls. That number grew in 2011 to just over 2.1 million individuals, then slightly over 3.6 million in 2015 and then just over 4.8 million people used the advance polls in 2018.
Today is the final day for residents to cast their vote by special ballot. The deadline is 6:00 pm.
It’s also the final day to order your vote by mail kit. The deadline for that is 4:00 pm.
