Progress has been made on adding permanent light fixtures at Glenn Hall Park.

A group led by the Humboldt Collegiate Institute (HCI) Mohawks Football has been working hard to make the project a reality.

After receiving permission from the City of Humboldt to begin fundraising, they have been busy trying to get the lights installed at the field for this fall.

The group has been able to secure some poles from Wynyard, who had lights installed at the field last year.

Leisure Services Director Mike Ulriksen explains that there wouldn’t be too much work required to install the lights at Glenn Hall Park.

“The main priority is running power to each of the locations and get something for the poles to be mounted to, get the concrete pillars into the ground and get everything hooked together.”

One thing that they would have to keep their eye on when installing the lights is the underground irrigation system currently at Glenn Hall Park according to Ulriksen.

He added they would need to determine the location for each post that would be installed at Glenn Hall Park.

While the football team use the lights at Glenn Hall Park, other sports like soccer and track and field would be able to use them to allow events in the evening.

Ulriksen suggested that in the past, they’ve created ice on the track surrounding the field and that might be something they could explore for the winter.

Along with Wynyard, Watrous installed permanent lights at their football field last year and moved the start times for their football games into the evening to allow for more spectators at their football games.
