Red Deer Polytechnic is celebrating five decades of shaping early childhood educators, with a special event planned to mark the 50th anniversary of its Early Learning and Child Care program.
“We’re excited to celebrate this educational milestone, highlighting RDP’s commitment to Early Childhood Education,” said Dr. Julia Rheaume, associate dean of the School of Arts and Education at Red Deer Polytechnic.
“This milestone contributes to building strong connections and capacity in the Early Childhood Education profession in Alberta that helps to pave the way for a bright and strong future for children and communities across our province.”
Rheaume said the program has adapted over the years to meet the evolving needs of families, communities and the early learning sector. She also emphasized the impact of graduates who have gone on to work in schools, daycares and community agencies across Alberta and beyond.
“As we look back on 50 years of graduates, we’re proud of the positive change they’ve created, and we’re equally excited about the future of the profession,” she said.
To celebrate the anniversary, RDP will host Changemakers in Early Childhood Education: Building Connection, Community, and Capacity on Saturday, April 26. The event will run from 10 a.m. to noon at the main campus and will include guest speakers, information booths and opportunities to connect with faculty.
“We welcome alumni, industry partners, and community members to join us,” said Rheaume. “This is a celebration of the profession and the people who make it thrive.”
