A new ultra-fast electric vehicle (EV) charging station has been installed along Queen Elizabeth Highway 2, promising to transform the electric vehicle landscape in Central Alberta.

The charger, located at Red Deer County's Junction 42 Business Park, just south of Red Deer near Penhold, is a strategic addition to the region's EV infrastructure.

Thanks to grant funding from Natural Resources Canada (NRCAN) and Red Deer County, the FLO Ultra™ EV charger is the fastest in the region, offering long-distance travelers a reliable and fast charging solution.

As demand for electric vehicles continues to grow, the new station is a vital step in the transition to more sustainable energy practices in Alberta.

Jim Wood, Mayor of Red Deer County, highlighted the broader impact of the new charging station: “Red Deer County’s Junction 42 Business Park is an engine for economic growth, tourism, and clean energy leadership. Ensuring access to reliable and fast EV charging infrastructure helps make Central Alberta an attractive destination for all travelers along the QEII.”

The site is expected to become a key pit stop for travelers, especially those heading along the busy QEII corridor.

“Partnerships like this one with Red Deer County, supported by NRCAN, help us expand EV infrastructure in Central Alberta. This project ensures that electric vehicle owners in the region can count on fast, accessible, and reliable charging options while traveling,” said Lauren Garvey, CEO of EQUS.

The FLO Ultra™ charger is designed to accommodate a wide range of EV models, including larger trucks and trailers, providing a seamless experience for all users.

This initiative marks a significant milestone in the region's ongoing efforts to adopt and support sustainable energy solutions, positioning Central Alberta as a key player in the EV charging network across the province.
