A peek into the future of Cochrane’s newest national team is coming this weekend.

The Rocky Mountain Rage is inviting Cochranites to come celebrate its first official franchise event, a jersey logo reveal and coaching staff announcement set for May 3 at the Canadian Brewhouse in Cochrane at 3 p.m.

“This is big for Cochrane. We’re trying to keep everything as Cochrane-ish as possible,” says Angie Pighin, a founding committee member of the team.

“You’ll see what I mean once the logo is out, it’s very cool.”

The Rocky Mountain Rage is the newest team to join the National Ringette League this fall, with the Cochrane-based team aiming to attract top-level ringette talent from across the country and possibly even overseas.

“We’re expecting athletes from Alberta, other provinces, and even heard rumblings about players from Finland,” Pighin says.

She hopes the event draws fans of all ages and interests, especially locals curious about the franchise and what it will bring to the town.

“It’s not just for ringette families, it’s for anyone who wants to see what’s coming.”

“Ringette is the fastest sport on ice, and these are the top athletes in the country,” Pighin says. “It’s going to be electric.”
