SaskEnergy will be performing a controlled gas flare near the city of Estevan this week, with work ongoing close by.
The company will be flaring the TransGas block valve site, located in the RM of Estevan near the intersection of Bienfait Grid Road and Kensington Avenue, around 1.5 kilometres northeast of Estevan.
Flaring will take place intermittently from 9:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 29th and Wednesday, April 30th, with possible changes depending on operating requirements.
While work is ongoing, residents may see a 40-foot flame being emitted from the flare stack attached to the site.
SaskEnergy says that flaring is necessary for working on the site. A flare works by isolating a portion on gas line from the system, instead removing the natural gas through a controlled burn known as a flare. This process is industry standard and reduces the carbon footprint of the vented natural gas by 85 per cent.
SaskEnergy will be supervising the area around the flare to ensure public safety. Residential natural gas service in the area will not be affected, according to SaskEnergy.
