It's the election that most southeast voters have been waiting for.

Today is the federal election. While local candidates are vying to get your vote, Elections Canada is making sure the process of getting you to the polls is as smooth as it gets.

Who's on the ballot?

Southeast Saskatchewan sits inside the Souris-Moose Mountain riding. This includes major centres like Estevan and Weyburn and their surrounding smaller communities. Candidates had to submit paperwork by Monday, April 7, to ensure their name would appear on the ballot. Since the deadline has now lapsed, the confirmed candidates on the ballot will be:

  • Steven Bonk - Conservative Party of Canada
  • Aziz Mian - Liberal Party of Canada
  • Sheena Muirhead Koop - New Democratic Party
  • Remi Rheault - Green Party of Canada
  • Lyndon Dayman - Canadian Future Party
  • Travis Mitchel Patron - Independent

Voter Information Card (VIC)

Voter information cards are making their way to eligible voters all over the southeast. Elections Canada says they will be arriving in your mailbox at the address used to register to vote.

A voter information card looks like this:

Polling places on Election Day

Voters in Estevan will have three polling locations:

  • Affinity Place, covering divisions 130 through 135

  • Church of God, for voters in divisions 137 through 144

  • Wylie Mitchell Centre, with polling divisions 146 through 154

Surrounding communities like Frobisher and Bienfait have their own polling stations, and voter information cards will indicate where individuals should vote.

The polls have closed, but I'm still in line to vote. What do I do?

Simple: DON'T LEAVE your place in line.

Elections Canada has clarified that in the event polls close but you're still lined up to vote, you're still eligible to vote. As long as you're indoors at the polling location and you're in line to vote, your ballot will still be counted.

I still need more information, or I need help with something specific. Where should I go?

For specific information pertaining to the Souris-Moose Mountain riding, you can find more information on Elections Canada's website. If you enter your postal code on their homepage, you'll find resources specific to your neighbourhood.

Elections Canada officers are also available to help voters at the Elections Canada office in Estevan. It's located at 110-1175 Nicholson Road, right across from the hospital. Their phone number is (833) 802-7352 and the assistant returning officer is Gwen van de Woestyne.
