Exceptional high school musicians will be making their debut performance with Central Alberta Chamber Orchestra (CACO) at the upcoming ‘CACO Goes To The Movies’ concerts in Red Deer and Ponoka.

Through the CACO internship program, talented students, selected through a competitive audition process, have been immersed in the world of orchestral performance, receiving personalized coaching and mentorship from members of the orchestra.

The number of interns accepted has more than doubled compared to last year.

One of the students is Tylan Bushell, a remarkable Grade 9 tuba player from Notre Dame High School in Red Deer and resident of Innisfail.

He will be performing and see his original composition, ‘Beyond Dissonance,’ premiered at these concerts – a significant achievement for such a young composer.

Audiences attending ‘CACO Goes To The Movies’ can look forward to a captivating program featuring iconic music from the silver screen, including ‘The Godfather Suite,’ ‘Silverado,’ ‘Misty Mountain Cold’ from ‘Lord of the Rings’, ‘Willy Wonka,’ themes from ‘James Bond’, ‘Harry Potter’, and ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’, as well as exciting selections from the realm of video game music.

"We are incredibly proud to support and nurture the musical growth of these young instrumentalists," says James Bicigo, Artistic Director of the Central Alberta Chamber Orchestra.

"This program offers them a real-world performance experience and valuable guidance that will undoubtedly shape their musical journeys."

By providing these unique opportunities, the orchestra aims to inspire the next generation of musicians and strengthen its connection with the community.

Performances will take place on

  • Friday, May 9th at 7:00 p.m. at Lutheran Church of The Good Shepherd in Red Deer

  • Sunday, May 11th at 2:00 p.m. at Ponoka United Church
