The Sylvan Lake Men’s Shed group has found a permanent home in town. The old tourist office near the municipal library will soon house the tools and serve as the place for members to share projects and conversations.

The group currently meets on Monday nights from 7 to 9 p.m. at the 2nd Wind Brewery & Eatery.

According to Phil Foreman, one of the main organisers, the group usually has under ten members, but he anticipates growth with the new space.

“If you’d like to have some fellowship, some connection you show up ... there are no dues ... and everyone is welcome,” said Foreman.

A Men's Shed is a space where men get together to create, tinker, drink coffee, and tell stories. They gather to work on fun projects and help out in their community.

Originally founded in Australia in the 1990s, the grassroots Men’s Sheds movement has expanded to more than 15 countries across the globe.

The first Men's Shed in Canada was started by Doug Mackie in Manitoba. There are now about 100 Sheds across the country with provincial associations in BC, Alberta, Manitoba, and Ontario. The first shed in Alberta was established in Camrose. There are now close to 20 Sheds across the province
