With the 45th federal election in the rearview mirror, we can now take a look at how the new Airdrie-Cochrane riding compared to the Banff-Airdrie riding in 2021.

For the Airdrie-Cochrane riding, 94,181 Albertans were registered electors.

According to Elections Canada, 70,560 votes were cast:

  • Blake Richards and the Conservative Party received 50,252 (71.2 per cent of the total).
  • Sean Secord and the Liberal Party garnered 16,714 votes (23.7 per cent).
  • Sarah Zagoda and the NDP received 2,591 votes (3.7 per cent).
  • David Sabine and the Libertarian Party garnered 623 votes (0.9 per cent).
  • Christopher Bell and the Christian Heritage Party received 380 votes (0.5 per cent).

Back in 2021, the Banff-Airdrie riding had 112,509 electors on the list.

According to Elections Canada, 77,384 votes were cast:

  • Aidan Blum with the Green Party received 1,405 votes (1.8 per cent).
  • Tariq Elnaga and the Maverich Party garnered 1,475 votes (1.9 per cent).
  • David Gamble and the Liberal Party received 9,572 votes (12.4 per cent).
  • Caroline O'Driscoll, an independent, garnered 489 votes (0.6 per cent).
  • Blake Richards and the Conservative Party received 43,677 votes (56.7 per cent).
  • Derek Sloan, with no affiliation, garnered 2,020 votes (2.6 per cent).
  • Ron Voss, an independent, received 60 votes (0.1 per cent).
  • Nadine Wellwood with the PPC garnered 5,808 votes (7.5 per cent).
  • Sarah Zagoda with the NDP received  12,482 votes (16.2 per cent).

On Monday, the Liberal Party of Canada formed a minority government, garnering 169 seats compared to the Conservative Party of Canada's 144.

According to Elections Canada, the 45th federal general election saw 19,583,016 Canadians casting ballots, reflecting a voter turnout rate of about 68.65 per cent.

Elections Canada reported the following breakdown:

  • 11,062,539 voted at their polling station on election day or in long-term care facilities.

  • 7,280,975 voted at advance polls between April 18 and April 21.

  • 928,311 voted by special ballot within their electoral district.

  • 215,057 voted by special ballot from outside their district, including military personnel, inmates, and electors who were in Canada but outside their electoral district.

  • 57,440 electors living outside Canada also voted by special ballot.

Blake Richards was re-elected as the Member of Parliament for Airdrie.
