The Lacombe Performing Arts Centre (LPAC) is hosting its closing celebration tonight at 7:30 p.m. for the "Piece by Piece" fundraising exhibition.

The exhibit features artwork from 22 local artists of varying skill levels and has been on display in the centre’s main lobby for the past few weeks.

A wide range of mediums — including acrylic and oil paintings, felting, mixed media and rug hooking — were available for bidding, and tonight, the highest bidders will take their pieces home.

“It’s been fun to come in and see which pieces have new bids,” said Ali Clayton, LPAC’s community programmer. “We’ve had a few phone-in bids and support from family, friends and neighbours.”

Tonight’s event, which is open to the public, will also include snacks, a bar and live music by local musicians.

A live painting will take place during the evening and be raffled off at the end of the night.

“I think people are waiting until Friday to come back and hopefully end up with the pieces they’ve been going after,” Clayton said, referring to the bidding, which is open until 8:30 p.m.

Proceeds will support LPAC’s ongoing initiative to keep ticket prices affordable and its mission of making art accessible.

The funds received will also benefit the contributing artists.

This is the first time LPAC has held this event, and the organization hopes to make it an annual tradition.
