Lacombe local Catherine Butcher will give a special solo performance in Red Deer on May 10 at the downtown branch of the public library.
The second violinist for the Red Deer Symphony Orchestra (RDSO) will be accompanied by piano and will perform masterpieces including Sarasate’s Carmen Suite, Johannes Brahms’s Violin Sonata No. 3, and a special composition by Paul Schoenfield.
Butcher, who has been playing since she was four years old, holds a Bachelor of Music from the University of Calgary and a Master’s Degree in violin performance from McGill University in Montreal.
Having been with the RDSO since the fall of 2024, Butcher is looking forward to the event.
“I've never anticipated having the opportunity to solo in our community, even in such a capacity,” says Butcher.
The public will be treated to the performance on the afternoon of May 10 at 1 p.m., in the acoustically rich Snell Auditorium at the library.
“I'm really, really excited because it means a lot to me to be able to play for my family and friends,” says Butcher about performing solo.
“You spend so much time by yourself and working on stuff over the years. It's so exciting to finally kind of get to show other people what you're doing.”
The performance is a free event, but attendees must RSVP at www.rdso.ca.
