Emergency Preparedness Week (EP Week) is this week (May 4 to 10) and is a reminder for people in Canada to take concrete actions to be better prepared to protect themselves and their household during emergencies. The theme this year is "Be Prepared. Know Your Risks."

Here are some tips:

  • Know the risks – While the consequences of disasters can be similar, knowing the risks specific to your community and region can help you better prepare
  • Make a plan – It will help you and your family know what to do
  • Get an emergency kit – During an emergency, we will all need some basic supplies. We may need to get by without power or tap water. Be prepared to be self-sufficient for at least 72 hours in an emergency

If you are interested in learning more about how to protect yourself and your family, visit getprepared.ca for more information and resources.

There will also be an Alberta Emergency Alert test this Wednesday (May 7) at 1:55 p.m. Be prepared for an interruption on your phone, T.V. or radio at that time.
