Cyprus Smith-Davis played his final year of junior hockey with the Richardson Pioneer Weyburn Red Wings. Cyprus moved around in his junior career, starting a couple games in the BCHL with the Cowichan Valley Capitals before joining the Notre Dame Hounds of the SJHL. He would join the Grande Prairie Storm of the SJHL towards the end of last season before being acquired by the Red Wings for his last junior year becoming an instant favourite and Assistant Captain. I chatted with him regarding his time as a Red Wing, what it was like moving around, and the next steps for Cyprus Smith-Davis. You can listen to the full interview at the bottom of this article.

Dylan: All right, so first, I'll get you to state your full name and the hockey team you played for.

Cyprus: Cyprus Smith-Davis and the Weyburn Red Wings.

D: So Cyprus, you're now aged out of junior hockey. You had the one year here. As (head coach) Cody (Mapes) said, he'd like to have you for all four of them. But I mean, this year was a pretty wild ride getting all the way to the SJHL finals. What was it like for yourself out on the ice?

C: I mean, to be honest, I still haven't really like fully got the chance to process it, it was crazy. You know, coming in at the start of the year like we knew, we had a good team, especially when Jerome and Ruthven and Dekay showed up too, like we had a good team before that, and with them they were just like the cherry on top, and we really just never looked back. There's a couple ups and downs throughout the year, but you know like having no other way, it was great.

D: Yeah, for sure and said, like for myself, it was my first year of the team, yours as well. You know, obviously you kind of bounced (around), spent some time with the Notre Dame Hounds before coming to Weyburn here maybe recap your junior hockey career and what was it like? You know, bouncing and then finally finding a home here in Weyburn for your 20-year-old year?

C: I mean, it was a wild ride. It was the most fun four years of my life for sure. There's nothing else I would have rather done. But yeah, like coming to Weyburn like. I said, I couldn't have found a better spot to end my career or my junior career. Especially with the finals around like just the team we had here. It was, it was something special. I've never been a part of a team that was so, you know, tight knit and everything like that . I’ve been fighting back tears for the last week since the season ended.

D: Yeah, so now you’ve aged out of junior hockey. I looked on your Elite Prospects page and it said for 2025-2026, Southern Alberta Institute of Technology. So now I haven't seen anywhere else that confirms it. So, am I the first to break that you're now attending SAIT to continue your hockey career and get an education?

C: Incorrect.

D: No? Elite (prospects) got that wrong?

C: I was talking with them a little bit and then after the playoffs kind of happened. I got this opportunity with Trinity Western (University) so, it's not final yet, but I'm signing there I think pretty quick here. So, I'm looking forward to that and my next step in my hockey career.

D: Well I’m glad I could break first that you’re attending Trinity West. Thank you so much Cyps.

C: Yeah, thanks.

Cyprus Smith-Davis confirmed today that he is committed to attending Trinity Western University to continue his hockey career.
