Another blockbuster deal from the Swift Current Broncos at the WHL Prospect Draft.
Swift Current sent veterans Luke Mistelbacher and Grayson Burzynski to the Brandon Wheat Kings for Brandon’s 2025 1st round pick (15th Overall), a 2nd round pick in 2025 (37th overall), Brandon's 3rd round pick in 2027, their 3rd round pick in 2028, their 6th round pick in 2028, and 2009-born forward Alex Letourneau.
Swift Current then flipped that 1st round pick to the Saskatoon Blades for their 1st round pick (22nd overall), 4th round pick (72nd overall), and 5th round pick (93rd overall) in the 2025 draft.
Saskatoon drafted Peachland forward Kain Martinuik with the 15th pick.
The Broncos will make that 1st round draft pick later tonight.
These moves come after the Broncos dealt Brady Birnie to the new Penticton Vees franchise for a number of high draft picks.
Mistelbacher is a Steinbach, Manitoba, native who returns to his home province after three seasons with the Broncos. The skilled winger was 8th in WHL scoring in 2024-25 with 42 goals and 51 assists in 67 games.
Burzynski is another Manitoban returning close to home. He led all Broncos defencemen with 11 goals and 36 assists in 62 games this season.
Burzynski played four seasons and 233 games with Swift Current.
The Broncos added a prospect in Letourneau, who was a 5th round WHL Prospects Draft pick of the Wheat Kings in 2024.
The 6'2 forward had 12 goals and 9 assists in 38 games of Alberta U18 AAA Hockey for Fort Saskatchewan in 2024-25. Letourneau led the Rangers in U15 AAA scoring in 2023-24 with 28 goals and 30 assists.
Swift Current's deals today go a long way towards recovering the draft capital they moved in attempts to compete over the past two seasons.
