A Kindersley father says his ordinary evening at home turned into an unforgettable one after discovering a $100,000 lottery win — all while holding his baby.

Miguel Malana checked his LOTTO MAX with EXTRA ticket using the Lotto Spot app and was stunned when the screen lit up with six figures.

“I was sitting with the baby and checked my ticket on the app,” Malana said in a Sask Lotteries news release. “It came up as $100,000 and I screamed, ‘Oh, is this for real??’”

In disbelief, Malana said he scanned the ticket more than 10 times before calling his wife over.

“She came running to ask what is wrong with me—then I showed her the win, and she smiled and said, ‘Unbelievable!’” he laughed.

While the baby likely didn’t grasp the magnitude of the moment, Malana said both his children will benefit from the unexpected windfall.

“I want to save for the futures of our two boys,” he said. “I’m also looking at putting up a new fence!”

“I’m so happy and very grateful to win,” Malana added. “I never thought it would happen to me!”

The winning ticket was purchased at Midtown Foods, located at 128 1st Street West in Kindersley. Malana matched the last six digits — 840886 — of the EXTRA number drawn on April 11.

Sask Lotteries, the province’s primary fundraiser for over 12,000 sport, culture and recreation groups, says proceeds from lottery sales have provided more than $1.4 billion in support since 1974.
