Residents at Deer Park Village in Red Deer were treated to a special tea on Friday.
As part of a Mother’s Day celebration, invitations were sent to residents as well as family members for a “Mount-Tea.”
Jamie Riggins, the Community Relations Coordinator at Deer Park Village, says, “We always have a Mother's Day tea, and we decided to make it a bit more of a community event and so we invited the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, to serve tea to our residents.”
Four constables were on hand from the Youth and Community Action Team (YCAT) to serve and pour tea, enjoy conversation, and pass out floral bouquets to all in attendance.
Const. Cory Riggs says they have had a long-standing friendship with Deer Park Village over the past few years and were happy to take part.
“It's not every day that you go places and people are super ecstatic to see you, but it is nice to see their smile on their faces and just seeing how much they care about us being there and appreciate everything,” says Riggs.
Residents also dined on specially prepared snacks, complete with cream cheese balls that looked like teapots.
“It was a great success, everyone at the independent living communities really appreciate us being there and then helping to celebrate Mother's Day with them all, so it was a nice experience,” comments Riggs.
Residents were also given mini bouquets, with flowers donated by local florists and assembled into bunches by students from Pines Alternative School.
