Alcohol is believed to have been a factor in a collision that left two drivers injured near Diamond Valley on Sunday evening.

Foothills County RCMP have released more information on a collision east of Diamond Valley.

Police responded to a two-vehicle crash on Highway 7 around 9 p.m. on Sunday (May 11).

It involved two Dodge trucks, one driven by a 37-year-old woman and the other by a 39-year-old man.

According to the RCMP, the female driver was airlifted to hospital via STARS air ambulance with life-threatening injuries.

The other driver was driven to hospital with serious injuries, and is expected to recover.

"RCMP do believe alcohol was a factor in this collision. The Alberta RCMP Criminal Collision Investigation Team is assisting in the investigation of the male driver," reads a release from the RCMP.

Investigators believe the man was passing another vehicle when he struck the woman's truck head-on.
