Due to recent significant precipitation, Lacombe County has downgraded the Fire Ban to a Fire Advisory.

While this change reflects improved conditions, fire danger remains high to very high in many areas of Lacombe County, and residents are urged to exercise extreme caution and prioritize fire prevention at all times.

Lacombe County will now issue fire permits for minor burns but will not approve any permits for large area burn activity until conditions further improve.

This Fire Advisory may be elevated to a Fire Restriction (or Fire Ban) at any time and will remain in effect until conditions improve

What is permitted during a Fire Advisory:

  • Small, permitted burns (larger burn requests will not be approved)
  • Bylaw-compliant backyard fire pits
  • Portable propane fire pits
  • Gas or propane stoves and barbecues
  • Catalytic or infrared-style heaters
  • Safe wood campfires

Safe wood campfires include those in campgrounds, private lands, and backyards where fires must be contained within a metal, brick, or rock fire ring and comply with Lacombe County’s Fire Bylaw

Requirements for safe wood campfires include:

  • Placement on a rock, gravel, sand, or other non-combustible surface extending at least one metre around the fire
  • A responsible person must attend the fire at all times and ensure it is extinguished before leaving
  • Adequate water must be available on site to fully extinguish the fire.

What is NOT permitted during a Fire Advisory:

  • Large area burn permits
  • Fireworks
  • Exploding targets
