Families have a chance to help their kids learn about bike safety for free tomorrow in Swift Current.
The annual Bike Safety Event returns to Riverdene Park, where volunteers from the City of Swift Current, the Swift Current Fire Department, City RCMP, and EMS will be teaching kids hand signals, bike maintenance, and road safety.
Dwinell Stevenson, in motion community facilitator for the City of Swift Current, invites everyone to attend their event with their bikes and helmets from 4 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.
"We'll have a helmet inspection station, a bike inspection station, and they can come learn some safety tips," said Stevenson. "There will be some cycling activities on the outdoor rink pad there, and there's an opportunity to go over to the wonderful Kiwanis Bike Park as well."
Outside of safety, kids can also have their bikes tuned up, whether that be adjusting the chain, tightening up brakes, or even filling up the tires with air. It's also a great chance for younger kids to learn how to start and stop their bikes while in a safe and monitored environment.
There will be free hot dogs, prizes and more. Canadian Tire has even donated multiple brand-new bikes to give away.
Stevenson has also arranged for an alternate venue should the weather turn sour. In the event of rain or other inclement weather, people can find the event moved to the Curling Rink at the Innovation Plex building.
