A local baseball player was recognized for overcoming obstacles.
Swift Current's Dawson Schultz is the Pikeville University comeback baseball player of the year.
It was special to return to the field after his injury.
"Amazing feeling just getting back to the sport I love," Schutlz said. "It felt really good."
There were some moments during his recovery where he doubted how well he'd be able to return.
"Right when I got there my elbow was feeling really stiff," he noted. "As soon as I kept with my physio and keeping my routine it came along pretty well."
Schultz has learned a lot in his time in Kentucky.
"Each and every day I'm trying to grow as a pitcher from where I was at last year," he said. "Learning a lot of things from a lot of the guys and the coaches help me out a lot."
Schultz went 1-0 with a 4.61 earned run average in seven relief appearances as a pitcher.
He will spend the summer playing ball in Nanaimo where his Pikeville coach works during his time away from school.
