The City has hired one of their own as the interim director of light and power.

Dan Martin is an electrical technologist for the City of Swift Current, and has been selected to fill in as the interim after the existing director of light and power, Darryl Tunall, stepped down following the April 28 city council meeting.

Swift Current Mayor Al Bridal expressed confidence in Martin taking on the interim title.

"He's been the brains behind all the different things that happen at Light and Power," said Bridal. "For all the engineering technology matters that happen, Dan has been doing all of that."

Martin had previously applied for the position of director of light and power when Mitch Minken retired in November of 2023. The City elected to hire Tunall based on the recommendation of Raven Hill Group of Vancouver.

"We didn't hire him for that role at the time, but now he is going to be the acting director for a few months here," said Bridal. "And I know he is going to apply this time, and this time we will give him an interview and see how he shakes out."

Bridal praised Martin for being extremely knowledgeable about all the technical aspects of light and power.

"He's a really good employee and hard-working man," said Bridal. "When there's a power outage, he's the guy they call. I'm very confident in his ability and he's been showing that in these first few weeks."
