Mrs. Judy Moss passed away on May 8, 2025 at the age of 70 years old, at the Meadows in Swift Current, Saskatchewan. At Judy’s request, no formal service will be held at this time. Judy was born on May 17, 1954 in Central Butte, Saskatchewan to Otto and Winnifred Ellerman.
Judy is survived by her husband Tom Moss; children: Olivia (Ken) Brownlee and Jonathon (Mallory) Unger; grandchildren: Dawson Regier, Berkley Regier, Cohen Unger, Dashiell Unger; brother Larry (Bev) Ellerman. Judy is predeceased by her father Otto Ellerman in 1980, and her mother Winnifred Ellerman in 2011.
Judy attended school at Rolling Prairie, Saskatchewan a year younger than the rest of her classmates, then in Rush Lake, Saskatchewan when the family relocated. She moved on to Herbert for grades 9 and 10, and finally graduated from the Swift Current Comprehensive High School as part of the second graduating class. Following high school, Judy moved on to SIAST campus in Saskatoon to obtain her Registered Nursing Degree, and graduated in 1973.
In 1973, Judy married John Unger, and although they divorced in 1998, they welcomed two children in that time, Olivia in 1976, and Jonathon in 1986. Judy married Tom Moss in the first wedding ceremony at the Meadows in 2023.
Judy worked at the Carmel Clinic as a nurse for Dr. Jones for a number of years before moving over to the Palliser, where she enjoyed her career in long term care. She brought humor, joy, and comfort to so many residents and families over the years. Her dedication and work ethic will be remembered fondly by the families she met, and co-workers that turned into friends. After she left the medical field, Judy served people in a different way. As a waitress and later a cashier, she continued to bring her sharp wit, and unwavering dedication to every job she had.
Judy was an active 4-H member as a young woman. She brought the Rush Lake 4-H Multi Club back to life in the 90’s. It was a welcome addition to the community. She also spent a number of years participating in the Family Fair Committee as part of the Swift Current Ag and Ex Association. This was the perfect platform to showcase her cross-stitch and sewing. Judy enjoyed several years as a volunteer, and spectator at the Fringe Festival, finding great enjoyment in the music.
Mom was always busy. If she wasn’t working outside in those hedges, she was tending to the flowers. If the weather wasn’t right, she could be found whipping up one of her famous batches of buns, or tucked away in her sewing room. Us kids spent many a day playing on the floor of that sewing room. That coffee can of buttons provided endless opportunities to build roads, or sort a thousand ways from Sunday. Mom had long enjoyed her Elvis….everything. As her mobility waned, you could usually find a cross-stitch hoop in her hands or a new figurine that she was giving a new life to. During her relationship with Tom, she found her love for football and her beloved Riders. There has never been such an avid fan. We learned very quickly that you don’t dare call or stop by during a game, as she was “busy.”
When she was at her best, mom’s laughter and smile would fill a room. Her eyes would always light up at the sight of her grandsons. There are stories, anecdotes, recipes, and memories that we will hold dear.
