May 15 is officially Moose Hide Campaign Day — an Indigenous-led, grassroots movement of men, boys and all Canadians who are standing up against violence toward women and children.
By wearing a moose hide pin today, you can show your commitment to honouring, respecting and protecting the women and children in your life.
Together, by wearing the pins, Canadians can spark conversations, compassion and the courage to act against gender-based violence.
According to the campaign website, more than 675,000 pins have been distributed.
Each pin is expected to spark at least five conversations about its meaning — which means the message will be shared over 30 million times.
The pins are offered freely — not sold — because of a deeply rooted Indigenous value: reciprocity.
They are considered a simple but powerful medicine, made from a small square of moose hide.
In many Indigenous cultures, traditional medicines — whether plants, teachings or crafted items like the moose hide pin — are given in a spirit of generosity, trust and hope.
This act of gifting acknowledges the sacredness of the medicine and honours the relationships it helps build.
Wearing the pin today shows your commitment to ending violence and building safer, more just communities for all.
