The latest data is showing Saskatchewan ahead of the pack with a continued rise in wholesale trade for the province. Wholesale trade sales, which exclude petroleum, petroleum products, other hydrocarbons, oilseed, and grain, saw a 20.9 per cent increase year-over-year from March 2024 to March 2025. A month-to-month increase of 10.2 per cent from February 2025 to March 2025 was similarly shown.
The statistics put Saskatchewan in first place in month-over-month and second place in year-over-year growth among the provinces. In total numbers, wholesale trade reached $4 billion in March 2025.
Similar growth was seen in the housing market with a 93.8 per cent increase in the first four months of 2025 compared to the same period in 2024. That also got Saskatchewan in first place, compared to other provinces.
The year-over-year change for the province came in at 88.3 per cent from April 2024 to April 2025, ranking third among the provinces. By dwelling, single-family increased by 112.9 per cent and multiple units increased by 81.8 per cent compared to April 2024.
"The strong performance we are seeing in housing starts and wholesale trade is further evidence that Saskatchewan is one of the fastest-growing economies in Canada," said Trade and Export Development Minister Warren Kaeding. "These consistent increases reflect the success of our policies, which are driving job creation, investment and growth across all sectors. Saskatchewan remains a destination for opportunity and is open for business."
Housing starts refer to the number of housing projects that started that month, with wholesale trade as a measure of the value of foods purchased with the intention of being sold to resellers.
