If you feel like water levels are low at Lake Diefenbaker, the Water Security Agency views it as mostly par for the course.

"We've been in a drought for quite a few years and not only in Saskatchewan," said Thon Phommavong, Vice President of Science & Licensing for the Water Security Agency. "But the World Security Agency has been taking proactive approach, and we adapt to the situation, and we've been operating the reservoir actually to capture as much water as we can. So this is where are in pretty good shape overall I would say at this time of the year we actually have a little bit more water in the lake that you would think."

The Water Security Agency website says the Lake Diefenbaker reservoir is usually targetted for 553m by May.

"We are at 553 about and we are actually about what typically we observe during this time of the year," Phommavong said.  "In probably in a month or so we typically get that flow from Alberta and then typically that's when you will see an increase in in in flow and corresponding water levels in the lake as well."

He noted the continuation of the melt in Alberta will gradually increase the water levels here over the next month.
